Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript submitted is original and unpublished and is not under review or in the process of being published by another journal. If this is not the case, you should provide a justification in “Comments to the Editor”
  • The submitted files are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (provided they do not exceed 2MB).
  • The URLs of all items in the list of references were provided when available
  • In case you are submitting a piece for peer-reviewing, please make sure that the instructions available under Ensuring a Blind Review were followed.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Authors' Instructions, in the About the Journal section.

Author Guidelines

Antropologia Portuguesa publishes original research articles, book reviews and interviews. Whenever needed video can be attached to the works. The submitted manuscripts, after analysed by the editorial board will be sent to peer-review only if observed the following guidelines:

– Title in English, or title in the original language of the paper and title in english;

– Authors and co-authors should provide their name, ORCID and institutional affiliation; 

– Email of the correponding author;

– Abstract and keywords (maximum of six) in the language used in the text and in English; if the text is in English, authors should chose another language adopted by the journal. The abstract should consist of 200 words;

– The original research articles should not exceed 8000 words (including tables, references, etc.);

– Main text separated under appropriate headings and subheadings using bold;


– Tables, figures and maps must be cited in the text and inserted in the more appropriate place, with the respective legends. All figures must be submitted in a separate file and have quality to allow reproduction. All images copyright are from the entire responsibility of the author (or authors);

– Footnotes should be limited to the minimum;

– In the text, references to the literature should be cited by author’s surname followed by the year of publication as follow: one author (Malinowski, 1927), two authors (Bogin and Malina, 2001) and for more than three authors (Smith et al., 2001);

– A semicolon should be used to separate two or more references (Waldron, 1994; Cockburn, 2000) or works from the same author but with different dates (Dias, 1998; 1999). When using elements of authors cited in another work, only
the last one should be used (Martín, 1901 in Neto, 1957);

– References will be arranged alphabetically, not chronologically, by author’s or authors’ surname in the following style: Author’s name (or names), year of publication, complete title, volume, and inclusive pages as follows:

Corresponding author of an accepted manuscript will receive an e-mail notification
when proofs are available for review (alterations to the main text are not accepted
at this point).


The first author of each article will receive two printed volumes of the journal. The
author(s) of interviews and reviews will receive one printed copy.


A publishing agreement is determined between the author(s) and the journal,
including that Antropologia Portuguesa is granted the exclusive right to publish and
distribute an article.
