Complete Works of Aristotle in the Portuguese Language

The edition of the *Complete Works of Aristotle* in the Portuguese language, an initiative launched by the Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology, began publication in 2004 through the Portuguese publisher Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda. It originated from a clear observation: the extremely insufficient number of translations of Aristotelian writings published in Portugal up to that point (only six—some of which were old, outdated, or unsatisfactory: *Categories*, *On the Soul*, *Politics*, *Rhetoric*, *Poetics*, and *The Athenian Constitution*) and, as a result, the low level of interest in the author within the Portuguese philosophical community, as well as the highly deficient degree of familiarity among the general public with the work and thought of this great philosopher.
