Abstract

The Inspection of Libraries and Archives (1887-1965) was a central institution for the consolidation of Archival Science in Portugal, for the knowledge of the great documentary incorporations in the state collections, of the archival practices of the first half of the 20th century and for the structuring of the National Archives and District Archives. Thus, through the Annals of the Libraries and Archives of Portugal (1914-1949) it is intended to outline the programmatic activity and the doctrinal lines that guided the action of this organism, as well as a proposal for a remissive index.
