It presents the archival identification processes to investigate the genesis of the architecture record as a basis for organizing archives. The identification is an Archival Science research method of intellectual nature that consists of investigative work and analysis of the producing entity and its records. It allows for standardizing the naming and the grouping of series for record management purposes and the treatment of accumulated records in archives. The phase of the identification of records typologies finds in Diplomatics, in its classical and contemporary perspective, the theoretical and methodological foundations of Documentary Typology. From this perspective, it presents the identification studies developed to treat the record typology of the fonds Severiano Mario Porto held by the Research and Documentation Center of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NPD/FAU/UFRJ).
