Archaeological archives bring together the field of information science and the field of archaeology, which is not common in research, since archaeologists are delegated the role of 'archivist' regarding the documentation that results from archaeological projects. The evolution of the value given to archaeological heritage has made necessary the task of representing archaeological materials in information systems. This article intends, through a literature review, to define archives, archaeology and archaeological archives and the contextualization of the Archaeology Centre of the University of Lisbon (UNIARQ) and the Project "Mesas do Castelinho", so that, through a classification framework which is based on the UNIARQ statutes, it is possible to describe the materials that come from this project in an online platform, making them accessible to enhance new investigations.
