The demography of the Oporto city in the early modern age

Abstract

This work pretends to study the demography of the Oporto city in the 1520’s. The main source used is “O Livro da Abertura da Rua das Flores” (from 1521-1527), that divides the population in different tax-payers categories and by circumscriptions; we will this way try to find the economical differences in the various parts of the city, the weight of the tax for tax-payer and finally calculate the grow of the population of the city since 1438.
