“Brother of my heart ...” Reconstitution of D. Francisco de Lemos personal archive and transcription of his brother João Pereira Ramos de Azeredo Coutinho letters (1775-1779)

Abstract

It was identified the family correspondence received by D. Francisco de Lemos de Faria Pereira Coutinho, which have been part of his personnel archive. Between this correspondence, are the letters written by his brother João Pereira Ramos de Azeredo Coutinho. These same letters are presented now, with the archival description of the documentary fund where they belong. The letters reflect the friendship relations of these two brothers, allowing us to meet the familiar intimacy and how they speak about public and private affairs. The chronological period in which they were written (1775-1779) D. Francisco de Lemos lived the first years of implementation of the University reform and held the Office of Governor of the bishopric of Coimbra, during the arrest of Bishop Miguel da Anunciação.
