This article deals with the bibliophile vein of Francisco de São Luís Saraiva, evidenced since his entry into the Benedictine Order, at the age of 14, and his journey through the libraries and archives of the Order as a visitor and archivist, until his appointment as Guardian of The Royal Archive of Torre do Tombo. This experience, as well as his devotion for historical research, based on the documents of the monastic archives, allowed him to know the state of these archives, which led him to express a constant concern with the facilities, the conservation and the “arrangement” of the records.
