This article aims to disseminate letters written by emigrants as a source in the study of the issue of Portuguese emigration. As a communicative practice that connects Brazil as a country of arrival and the district of Coimbra as an administrative unit of departure, the analysis of 59 letters from 1915 and 1916 that are in the Archive of the University of Coimbra attached to the passport processes reveals the amazing vision of the way of living and thinking about emigration for its protagonists.
