Abstract

Tourism is a phenomenon that circulates every year millions of people around the globe, driven by a wide range of motivations, because increasingly sophisticated, informed, discerning and experienced, these people are looking for a high quality tourist experience, depending on the competitiveness of destinations of their ability to adjust, adapt and change, processes that do not always conform to a model of sustainable tourism development. In this context, it is proposed the construction of an Observatory for Sustainable Tourism (OST) guided by the goal to monitor and prospective tourism development in a certain territory with a sustainability view, in order to minimize negative impacts and maximize their potential gains.
