The winter of 2013/14 was particularly stormy in the extratropical North Atlantic, with recurrent episodes of strong winds and strong swell, with destructive effects, especially in the Atlantic coastal areas of Western Europe. The direct cause was a strong ciclogenesis activity translated into successive explosive cyclogenesis phenomena which are listed and analysed in this paper, exploring their relations with the tropospheric dynamics of the high levels, in particular the polar jet-stream track, the jet-streak speed and the resulting divergence and convective activity.
