Some new suggestions for a reading of the text of the supposedly Mithraic inscription (CIMRM 801 bis) from Pax Iulia (Lusitania) are made. A full discussion of the text and its wider implications raises important doubts as to whether the inscription can be used as evidence for a regular cult of Mithras.
