O presente artigo tem por objetivo ampliar o estudo das incertezas que afetam os comportamen tos estruturais, em particular, os das estruturas geotécnicas, através da incorporação de outras fontes de incer teza para além das que são consideradas pela fiabilidade estrutural tradicional. Essas fontes são as que estão associadas aos comportamentos humanos e são as que, na maior parte das situações, constituem a causa mais frequente dos incidentes e acidentes estruturais. Em consequência ressaltam-se as limitações do âmbito das metodologias de fiabilidade estrutural tradicionais e a necessidade de alargar esse âmbito de forma a entrar em linha de conta com outro tipo de incertezas que não são aí tidas em consideração. Nessa linha de atuação ex planam-se as diversas perspetivas de abordagem do erro humano e abrem-se pistas metodológicas para a sua modelação. Finalmente, abordam-se os aspetos do comportamento humano que condicionam a qualidade das previsões de custos e de procura, introduzindo-se as linhas gerais de uma metodologia de elaboração de pre visões que procura tornear esses condicionalismos.
