Static puncture behaviour of geotextiles and geomembranes under degradation agents

Abstract

 In this paper the influence of four degradati m agents on the static puncture behaviour of two types of geosynthetics will be analysed. Three polipropylene spunbounded nonwoven geotextiles, of the same brand, with different unit weight (l 50g/m2, 235g/m2 and 400g/m2) and three high density poliethylene smooth geomembranes, ofthe sarne brand, with different thickness (1 mm, 1,5mm and 2mm) were selected. The materials were submitted for periods of 5, 15 and 30 weeks to the action of four different solutions: urban solid waste leachate; acid, alkaline and sodium chloride solutions. The static puncture strength was defined, for each degradation agent and each material, at the end of each period of exposure and the results compared with that of the virgin sample of the material. In this work materials and methodologies of analysis will be described, the obtained results will be analysed and the main conclusions will be put forward.
