Bens Comuns: Uma Análise Linguística e Terminológica

Resumo

A ampliação das práticas de compartilhamento de artefatos culturais possibilitada pela digitalização e pelas redes tem levado pesquisadores a aplicar a noção de commons (ou “bens comuns”) ao domínio dos bens intelectuais — em casos como o software livre, a Wikipédia e a publicação científica em acesso aberto, por exemplo. Este artigo aborda questões linguísticas e terminológicas que envolvem esse conceito e suas traduções (em particular para o português): analisa algumas confusões frequentes em relação ao conceito, como a mistura das acepções jurídicas, econômicas e teológicas da expressão “bem comum”; apresenta diversas expressões usadas para nomeá-lo em outras línguas; e discute os méritos e desvantagens de algumas das opções existentes em português — principalmente da opção “bens comuns”.

Biografia Autor

Miguel Said Vieira, Universidade de São Paulo

Doutor em Educação na Universidade de São Paulo (onde também se graduou em Comunicação / Editoração e em Filosofia), e especialista em Gestão da Propriedade Intelectual (pelo convênio SAPI / OCPI / Universidad Bolivariana de Venezuela). Seus interesses de pesquisa concentram-se nas relações entre cultura, tecnologia, colaboração, mercantilização e propriedade intelectual. Sua tese de doutorado, intitulada Os bens comuns intelectuais e a mercantilização, propôs uma leitura crítica do legado de Elinor Ostrom (laureada em 2009 com o Prêmio de Ciências Econômicas em Memória de Alfred Nobel) nas teorias de bens comuns intelectuais, e investigou as possibilidades de mercantilização subjacentes a novos modelos de negócio baseados no compartilhamento de bens culturais, em áreas como o software livre, a publicação científica em acesso aberto, o crowdfunding e a publicidade online. Milita nas áreas de cultura livre e democratização da ciência, e atua profissionalmente como editor.
