Abstract

This article traces a comparison between the uses of media in one of the first populist movements in history, Russian populism, and the uses of the media carried out by contemporary and digital populist currents. This paper is a theoretical analysis carried out from a bibliographic review of the first theme and the second, based on the comparative method, seeking these elements in the specialized literature. The objective is to identify not only possible similarities between the uses of the media by populism in 19th century Russia and recent populist currents but to discern their differences, including those concerning democracy. The conclusion shows that, despite having some similarities, the differences between the two populisms are more frequent.
