Plebiscite in Pará, Discourses, Creation of StatesAbstract
In 2011, the population of Pará decided, in a plebiscite, on the political-territorial configuration of a State. The creation of new states echoed again in the journalistic coverage of the elections in 2014, as a media position in order to contribute to the public's electoral choice. In this work, we analyzed the journalistic coverage of the newspaper O Liberal during the period of campaigns for the state government in 2014, regarding the reverberation of speeches about the plebiscite held in 2011. theoretical-methodological model proposed by van Dijk (2005). The debate was reduced to the dispute of political groups already sacralized in the region against the rise of others who seek their share of power, with the consequences of erasing the historical aspirations for autonomy of the population of the Carajás and Tapajós regions. The informative role of journalism used discursive strategies that, in the communication dispute, sought to legitimize hegemonic power structures.
