Abstract

This article aims to summarize studies on incidence, causes and consequences of road accidents; applicability of virtual reality in neurocognitive rehabilitation of victims, and Second Life potential for development of individual autonomy. We performed a systematic literature review by manual search of the most cited articles and books by other authors, including studies of the theoretical review. Inclusion criteria: statistical data on road accidents online, studies using virtual environments in the rehabilitation and neurocognitive assessment regardless of the sample or cognitive deficits and psychological problems. A review on the most cited studies, to examine the nomenclature, indications, and what the objectives thereof. We identified 85 studies of interest, among which show a wide heterogeneity in the criteria for selection of virtual environments, learning objectives, sample types and tendency to create serious games for assessment and neuropsychological rehabilitation of cognitive functions.
