The change processes mirrors the centrality of ongoing dynamics movements that score the experiential character of the human life. Whether in therapy or in “real life” it is likely that these processes obey the same developmental principles. Thus, it is curious that research in psychotherapy has been given relatively little importance to the change processes that occur spontaneously, in everyday life. In this study we analyzed three types of narratives of difficult situations (past, persistent and actual) of a set of participants (N=27), who weren’t at the time in therapy. The Innovative Moments Coding System (M. Gonçalves, Matos & Santos, 2007) was used to characterize and compare these three types of narratives. The results are presented taking into account the investigations that have been conducted in psychotherapy, using this methodology. These results suggest that this methodology can facilitate the understanding of how people narratively elaborate their difficulties in everyday life and that the process of change has similarities with what has been found in research in psychotherapy.Downloads
