Abstract

The aim of this article was to develop and validate a scale to measure the attitudes towards organizational actions for diversity. All the items which make up this scale were drawn following both a deep literature review and a qualitative research. A theoretical model which considers those attitudes under two dimensions is presented: 1) Acceptance and rejection attitudes as an evaluative psychological tendency; 2) individuals’ attitudes from these acceptance or rejection, considering diversity groups (gender, race, people with disabilities and other dimensions). The final validation of the scale, which was carried out of a sample of 412 Brazilians’ workers, has resulted in 17 items which were gathered into four factors: stigma, social justice, gain obtaining and reverse discrimination. The development of this scale can contribute in two ways: it has systematized knowledge which was not wellknown about individuals’ attitudes in relation to actions towards diversity, filling in a gap in the literature, and, in addition, the scale itself can be used to support diversity management decisions. A final consideration is related to the use of this scale in other cultural contexts which need, occasionally, a cultural validation.
