Abstract

The objective of this study is to define a model of fire risk and a strategic map of forest fire combat based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Brasília National Park, located in the northwest of the Federal District,
Brazil. Many variables were considered such as the terrain’s slopes, declivity, road network, land use and occupation, the tilt and orientation of the terrain and roads. The results indicated that 83% of the National Park area are under high
risk or very high risk of fire and 3% are under extreme risk. The methodology has been replicated in other areas in the Cerrado biome and validated in fire zones in 2010.
