The present study will begin with the translation of chapter VI (Horatius illustratus in poetarum gratiam lib. 4. Od.2) of the Saturnaliorum decas VIII in Liber VIII in Francisco Mendoça’s Viridarium, followed by a reflection upon the book and the author. Secondly, we will ponder on the presence of classical authors in Jesuit schools, using as an example the connection between a bee’s role and the process of poetic creation made in the works of Horatius, Plato, Lucretius, and the humanist Mureto.
