Abstract

In the year in which the bimillennium of Augustus' death is celebrated, this study proposes a didactic analysis of Suetonius’ text (Aug. 99‑100.1) about the last moments of the founder of the principate: an example of a good death, the just tribute to a ruler who, despite his many faults reported by Caesars’ biographer, was consecrated as a myth and exemplary prince. After a contextualiza tion of the report within the Life of Augustus structure, a Portuguese translation is presented, followed by a commentary, which will also make a comparison with information coming from parallel sources.
