The biography of Queen Saint Elizabeth, written by Jesuit priest Pedro João Perpinhão, De Vita et Moribus Beatae Elisabethae Lusitaniae Reginae, composed between 1557 and 1561, included the telling of the miracle of the roses which, until then, according to the author’s testimony, had not appeared in written documents related to the queen’s life and only circulated by way of the people’s voice. Perpinhão seems to not have had any access to two other biographies written during his age, which included the same miracle. All of these reports from mid xvi century could have had a common origin.
