Abstract

The well-known inscription over the arched gate of the entrance of Renier Mansion in Crete is frequently referred in the touristic books, but her historic and epigraphic importance isn’t studied till now. Dated from 1608, it is in fact an intelligent adaptation of Latin classic literary topics from Horace and Virgil.
