This article starts by analysing Ausonius’ work in connection with the gnomic literature pertaining to the tradition of the Seven Wise Men, while seeking to underline the originality of his contribution, which derives mainly from the theatrical structure adopted in the composition. In the second part of the paper it is displayed the original text, together with a Portuguese translation and a short commentary on the main questions raised by this particular passage (lines 1-72).
