Abstract

One of the most symbolic deaths in Suetonius is that of Caligula, comparable to the death of Julius Caesar, and equally sanctioned by the Roman traditional mentality as a justified attack to the tyranny into which had fallen this reign. Therefore, this assassinate is narrated by Suetonius and by parallel sources like a sort of ritual immolation carried out by the conspirators. Anyway, such as the slaughter of Caesar of 44 B.C., the sacrifice of Caligula was a lost opportunity to restore the republican freedom.
