Abstract

This essay completes the analysis (see Boletim de Estudos Clássicos 59, 2014, p. 95-102) about an inscription from Balsa, in the southern Lusitanian coast. We will see the cultural and social significance of the expression barcarum certamen et pugilum and what is, in fact, the real purpose of the money’s offer to the citizens.
