Silva Alvarenga is a Brazilian Arcadism poet and, as such, his neoclassical poetry shows strong influence of the ancient culture of Greco-Roman origin. In this article, we discuss the representation of love in the verses that compose his book Glaura: erotic poems, published in 1799, clarifying the relations between loving feeling and references to images of nature and Greco-Roman mythology used to compose the bucolic scenery of the encounter between lover and beloved.
