Joaquim de Carvalho was born June 10, 1892, at Figueira da Foz. He was one of the first people of the 20th century to choose an academic career as a way of engaging in public intervention. He has achieved national prominence as an Historian of Ideas, having undertaken a specialization in Science and Portuguese Thinkers and Contemporary Portuguese Culture. This paper explores the archive consisting in the letters written by António Baião, director of Torre do Tombo, and by Laranjo Coelho, paleographer of the same institution, letters that were sent to Joaquim de Carvalho. The main goal of this paper is to divulge the referred documentation, which is already properly organized, treated and systematized.
