Notaries, Coimbra, House of AveiroAbstract
This article discusses the group of men and woman who received the property of the Coimbra’s notary offices from the early sixteenth to the mid-eighteenth century. We rely essentially on letters of appointment, presentation or confirmation written by the House of Aveiro and the Portuguese Crown and registered in the Royal Chancellery. Thus the information collected will allow us to analyze the legal framework and how this noble prerogative was exercised, to observe the transmission of the offices, and to identify its owners.
