Abstract

The recent increase in the research of personal archives is notorious, in the scope of several scientific areas. This exploratory and qualitative study carries out a critical reflection on the place that 'personal archives' occupy in international archival science / discipline, based on the method of documentary analysis. It discusses the terminology and the concept of 'personal archives', analyzes their uneven development in different countries and ends with a enumeration of some issues. It concludes that its valorization is due to history and, mainly, to the history of private life.
