Royal College of St. Paul - archival description - University of CoimbraAbstract
The Royal College of St. Paul, founded by king João III, in 1549, was a University College whose life ran parallel to the University of Coimbra, institution of which depended on the confirmation of the election of its Rector, approval of accounts, granting equity allocation etc. The building where it was installed began to be built in 1549, but was only to be opened in May 2, 1563, despite already receiving high scholars since 1558. This paper consists of a description of the documentary subfund preserved in the Archives of the University of Coimbra and was produced between 1559 and 1834, date of its extinction, according to the ISAD (G) and the guidance prescribed in the national ODA. We also present the subfund's inventory and related series.
