Abstract

From the observation data in the field of climatic variables made in urban and periurban areas of the city of Mangualde (Portugal), it was possible to distinguish and define areas with similar physical characteristics as factors involved in the local climate and, consequently, which corresponds to a homogeneity topoclimate, called climatopes. The identification and characterization of climatopes is a key aspect of the application of climatology to town, allowing, in particular, highlight spatial contrasts of bioclimatic discomfort and potential conditions of reduced air quality, among others, and thus, develop guidelines specific mitigation features topoclimates unfavorable to the quality of urban environment. In this work we present a preliminary draft of climatopes in the city of Mangualde and its application to urban planning.
