Abstract

Though, in recent years, there has been a decrease on cardiovascular mortality, in Portugal, this is still the leading cause of death and of hospitalization. This disease has a clear seasonality with a peak of both mortality and hospital admissions during the winter months. The analysis of the acute myocardium infarction pattern and seasonality enables identification of population at risk and also the situations that is urgent to act. There is a strong difference on the spatial distribution in the risk of hospital admission during winter months; the south and inland areas are the most vulnerable.
