The social production of public space in the city of Belém-PA:
the case of Complexo Feliz Lusitânia e Feira do Açaí

The urban space, recently, has crossed for a strong market influence that change a production process and a social and spatial organization and that majority it complexes and fragments this spaces. Thus, public spaces in a big cities end up coming in in the logics of private interests that limit their use for certain social agents. Therefore, the central problem lifted up in this research is about: How do Complexo Feliz Lusitânia and Açaí Fair constitute themselves from their uses and social and spatial organization? This way, this article aims to analyze the experiences and uses that happen in the Complexo Feliz Lusitânia and the Açaí fair, that characterize their as public spaces. The methodology used in this article were bibliographical sources, documents and content analysis aided by fieldwork that was realized in the delimited research locus. As results, we consider that public spaces in Belém, despite being legally characterized as public, the majority they do not the real public status of these spaces by restricting their use almost exclusively to exacerbated consumption, limiting this way, aspects of greater importance such as sociability, cooperation and the political participation of society.
