The imperial statues offered to Lucius Verus (FE 756 = FE 796 = AE 2020 416) and Marcus Aurelius (FE 745 = AE 2020 415), recently found in Lisbon, constitute an unprecedented case-study at a local and at a provincial level.
Due to its singular value, an analysis to both monuments was carried out in order to complement and correct some of the considerations previously made about the reading and interpretation of the inscriptions; and in order to emphasise the importance of this honorific set in the long-term evolution of the imperial cult in Olisipo.
Is then proposed a new and complete reconstruction of the texts, which resulted from a comparison with other epigraphic parallels from Lusitania, Hispania and other provinces of the empire, in an attempt to understand their original location and the reason why an unusual textual arrangement was displayed.
