Abstract

The question of the existence of a Roman glass production in Conímbriga was first raised in 1964 by Jorge de Alarcão. In 2009, when dealing with glass production in the Iberian Peninsula northwest, we dedicated a small note to it in which it was argued that this production, being plausible, had not been irrefutably proven. In 2013, wen carrying out a survey on glass production sites in Hispania, we were able to personally verify the mentioned production evidence as well as to proceed with the chemical analysis of a small sampling. It is these archeometric results that we now present and that allow us to unequivocally confirm the existence of a secondary glass production in Conímbriga in the 3ed century A.D., at least.
