A Bridge Between Continents: Álvaro Vasconcelos, a record of his encounter with the Northeast of Brazil

Abstract

This essay is a record of Álvaro Vasconcelos’ visit to Brazil in 2015, in two moments: the first, at the University of São Paulo – USP; and the second, a meeting with the directors of the Instituto Dom Helder Camara, on July 8, 2015. On both occasions, I was able to share in his diagnoses and projections. At the IDHeC meeting, his comments on global political philosophy prove, almost a decade later, to be current and useful for analyzing the present situation. In Recife, he revisited several places and discussed the Brazilian reality with friends. This was his encounter with the Northeast of Brazil.
