This paper presents the results of a geo-environmental investigation, carried out in the North Sewage Treatment Plant of the city of Brasília, in the Federal District of Brazil, which, on a pioneer basis, used the resistivity cone as the main site investigation tool. The investigation campaign of the study area involved the geotechnical, mineralogical and physic-chemical characterization of the substratum by means of soil samples at distinct points, and their subsequent laboratory testing and chemical analysis. Additionally, fluid samples were retrieved a BAT type sampler, which was employed in the ground water and also at the surface of the lake Paranoá. The comparison of the characterization results from the soil and fluid with those from the cone resistivy tests demonstrated a significant contrast between contaminated and non contaminated areas, besides allowing the establishment of consistent correlations with certain contaminants. The resistivity cone results have also been compared to those from conventional electroresistivity surveys.
