Abstract

This work concerns the geotechnical behaviour of the rock material that makes the slopes along the roadcuts of the highways (IP3, IC7. EN234). The anisotropy of the »»»»»»» The lithology is made by alternation of phyllites, metagraywaques (Complexo Xisto-Grauváquico), schists, carbonaceous schists and quartzites (Ordovician- Silurian). There are different types of failure in the slopes studied: wedge. circular. planar and toppling failure. ln order to analyse these stability problems the authors carried out a study of the discontinuity planes, lithology and the intensity of the wheathering. Various laboratory tests, namely the apparent bulk density, porosity, water absorption, slake durability and the point load strength, were conducted in order to make the geotechnical characterization of the slopes material. As for the most wheathered schistose rocks (w5) and the faults filling material, the authors carried out tests intended to study the soils, such as the soil swelling test, blue methylene test, Atterberg limits and the X-ray diffraction.
