Point of view about the application of probabilistic codes to the foundation design

Abstract

The reliability concepts adopted in the new Portuguese Codes of Practice raises some questions related to the level of safety to be used in foundation design. The paper discusses some aspects of this problem, particularly for the case of direct foundations.
