Scale effect on the deformability and strength characteristics of rock masses

Abstract

Scale effect is defined and its cause is discussed. A model for scale effect on deformability is presented and results obtained with this model for some rock masses are shown and discussed. A model is also presented for scale effect on shear strength of joints as well as some results confirming it.
