Considerations on dam recovery

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a study on the recovery of dams safety, mainly on those ones under operation. Emphasis is given on the study of the safety work life of these structures and of the monitoring criteria used; the experience obtained from two brasilian dams - Guarapiranga (1909) and Rio Grande dam (1939) - is presented. Some recommendations are made on the general principies to be followed in future cases, focusing on the regular procedures concerning dam monitoring and safety control.
