Site investigations, design and construction - a tunnel case history

Abstract

Toe existence of two different designs (with and without site investigation) allowed to discuss the influence of the S.I. on both design and cost of construction, for a group of three tunnels.  Toe savings on the cost of construction as well as the cost of the S.I.  were assessed and a benefit/cost ratio was derived for the S.I. perfomed.
