The paper analyses the fundamental issues concerning the behaviour of soils reinforced with nails, particularly when the thechnique is used on excavations. A case study is then carried out which applies a method of analysis using the limit equilibrium concept. Finally, the displacements of nailed excavations are briefly discussed.
