Notes on Stone Conservation Treatments in Monuments

Stone conservation treatments (cleaning, consolidation and protection) now most in use in monuments are briefly described and attention is called to the need of carrying out preliminary studies in order to make a correct "diagnosis". The problem of cleaning stones stained by inscriptions is dealt with in a little more detail owing to its present interest.
The conservation processes adoptcd in Colognc and Milan cathedrals are also describcd.
