The following text, embodies considerations related to the idealization of classification schemes of rock media to be used in Rock Mechanics. lt includes an analysis of the bases and principles of classification systems (Chapter 2); some comments about physical properties of rock media (Chapter 3); conclusions (Chapter 4); and finally a resume of the main existing classifications (Annexed).
