Abstract

 ln the first part of the work a description is made of the main characteristics of the rocks and rock masses, the interest and utility of the rheology in the study of theses materials being emphasised. In honour to Manuel Rocha a presentation is made, for the first time, of an application study ofthe Burger's model with a cyclic linear stress.

ln the second part, of an experimental nature, several studies and tests performed are presented by slides, in the decades 60, 70 and 80, with application of the techniques and equipment's developed at LNEC on the initiative and attendance of Manuel Rocha.
