Toe application of geotextiles as a means of internal reinforcement of embankment earth slopes is dealt with. Aspects such as the properties of geotextiles, the mechanism of soil-reinforcement interaction and the methods of analysis and safety criteria for this type of earth structures are discussed. The theoretical principles of two computer programs for the stability analysis and design of geotextile reinforced embankment slopes are presented. Toe programs, which are based on limit equilibrium analyses, were used in a parametric study aiming at the evaluation of the influence of some design parameters upon the safety and economy of a reinforced soil structure.
